A former strategy consultant and civil servant advising on corporate restructure, government and venture capital, Nick Davies left Shoreditch in London in 2015 to take on the ownership and management of the 32-bedroom hotel The Cottage in the Wood in the Malvern Hills. Together with his wife Julia, Nick managed a three-phase refurbishment of the hotel, which began in January 2017 and was fully completed in 2022. Since Nick and Julia have owned the hotel, revenue has increased by more than 90% in both F&B and overnight stays, largely down to a complete overhaul of the structure of the business, implemented by Nick. In 2019, he secured £2.1 million enabling the complete refurbishment of the entire property by 2020, two years ahead of schedule, leading to the hotel being awarded four AA stars in 2022.
