Designing with purpose: studioATARA on bringing the Sales Lounge to life at the Independent Hotel Show 2025

We caught up with Independent Hotel Show design partner studioATARA to reflect on their work bringing the 2025 Sales Lounge to life. Known for their holistic approach to interior design, studioATARA blends beauty, responsibility and purpose in every project. The team specialises in sustainable, biophilic and circular design that prioritises both human well-being and environmental impact.

Following the show at Olympia on 6-7 October, we spoke with founder Timna Rose to hear more about the studio’s philosophy, their collaboration with the Independent Hotel Show, and how they approached this year’s theme of Redefining Luxury.

Tell us about studioATARA and what you do

Why did you partner with the Independent Hotel Show to bring the show’s Sales Lounge to life this year?

We loved partnering with the Independent Hotel Show because it was such a natural fit. The show attracted people who were passionate about hospitality and the future of design. Creating the Sales Lounge was a chance to showcase how sustainability and style could come together seamlessly, in a space that was as inspiring as it was practical.

What is important to consider when it came to hotel design?

Hotels are about creating experiences, so it’s about designing spaces that feel welcoming, restorative and memorable. For us, that means balancing comfort and function with sustainability, creating environments that delight guests and help them feel connected to both nature and place, while also supporting the business’s bottom line and ROI.

What was your approach to designing the Sales Lounge this year?

We wanted the Sales Lounge to feel like an oasis: calm, comfortable and inspiring for both the sales team and their guests. Our approach was to introduce some of the WELL concepts and features where we could, by combining natural textures, thoughtful materials and flexible design elements to create a space that supported conversation, connection and creativity.

How was the theme of Redefining Luxury incorporated?

For us, redefining luxury meant slowing down and appreciating quality, authenticity and care for the planet. In the Sales Lounge, luxury came through in tactile finishes, crafted details and the sense of calm that thoughtful, sustainable design brought.

What sustainability considerations were there for this design?

We always design with circularity in mind, so much of the lounge was created with reused or repurposed products. We also chose sustainably manufactured products and finishes, worked with UK-based suppliers where possible, and designed in a way that minimised waste after the show.

What suppliers did you work with for the design?

This year, we partnered with some brilliant like-minded suppliers: Spark & Bell and Tala for lighting, Ethimo for furniture, Domus for flooring, Foresso for material innovation, and Allsfar for acoustic solutions.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

Always from nature first: the colours, textures and rhythms of the natural world are endlessly inspiring. Beyond that, I draw ideas from craft, travel, and conversations with makers and sustainability pioneers who are shaping the future of design.
